In case you haven't been tracking the developing story of the shortened life expectancy of the college football media guide, then check this out. Schools not printing any media guide this season: Boise State, Fresno State, Nevada, Marshall, Rice, SMU, Ball State, Bowling Green, Florida International, Louisiana-Monroe, North Texas, and Arkansas State.
Maryland will be printing '41 pages of black-and-white text on regular copy paper with statistics and bios on key players. Absent were the school records, glossy cover and historical data we’ve grown accustomed to.' What a waste.
Moreover, the Football Writers Association of America said in July that it is going to use the backing of the SEC (one of the conferences who wants to keep the guide intact) to fight the Pac-10, who submitted a written proposal to the NCAA to obliterate the handy guide altogether.
