Husker Art Exhibition

With the 2008 football season all but in the books, I figured it is time for a new hobby on Saturdays. I've decided on art. My theme this week is 'Representational Art.'

In the first piece, we have a boat, man, and water. If you look closely, on the side of the boat you'll see 'S.S. HUSKER' which shall represent the Nebraska football program. Sitting in or on the boat is a very large man with a tattoo that reads 'BIG XII.' He shall represent all Big 12 football teams other than Nebraska. Surrounding the boat you'll notice a large body of water that the boat is still sitting atop of - but barely. The surface of the water shall represent the median line of NCAA Division I-A football teams. You'll notice part of the boat is starting to drop below the surface of the water. As the man grows by devouring everything in front of him, more and more of the boat continues to drop below the water surface. In other words, the boat is sinking.

The second piece represents something a little dreary, but simple. You'll notice an ostrich burying its head. An 'N' on its side represents the Nebraska football team. Legend has it that ostriches like to bury their heads in the sand to avoid their problems, such as predators. What the ostrich doesn't know is that by continuing to stand there with its head buried and do the same thing over and over and over, other predators can still see him. Pick your head up and figure out how to run.

Next week's exhibition will cover the theme of 'Object Art.' Inspiration will be from Fox Sports Network's Saturday telecast at 1 p.m. CST. Rumor has it there will be some great still imagery.
