Freshman Oklahoma wide receiver Josh Jarboe was dismissed from the football team today. Jarboe was a very highly recruited player out of Georgia. Last spring, Jarboe was arrested and expelled from high school after a principal saw him pull a handgun out of his car. The charges would eventually be reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor thus allowing him to attend Oklahoma. Apparently, that wasn't a wake up call. Jarboe's newest antic was a rap performed in an Oklahoma dormitory that leaked itself on to YouTube. The problem is that the rap contains lyrics involving guns and shooting people. Oops.
(warning: rated R)
First of all, if this kid is only 18, then I'm 15. Secondly, I don't understand how doing a rap about shooting people is ever a good idea - especially on a college campus. For one, when you already have a possession of a firearm without a license and are charged with bringing a gun to school, you have to figure you are already on thin ice. Another thing I don't understand is why Bob Stoops let this kid of campus in the first place. Despite having a felony charge, he was placed on two years probation and had to serve 80 hours of community service. Although he finished up his degree online in order to graduate, it's not like he was already part of the football team. Stoops should have known better than to give a second chance to a criminal that hasn't even stepped foot on a practice field let alone started college. And finally, did anyone ever tell him that he has a future in the music industry? That was terrible.

Jarboe and Plumley

Not since Bonnie and Clyde has there been such an infamous gangster couple like Josh Jarboe and Jenna Plumley. Thanks to the Oklahoma athletic department for making this love connection happen. As you are all aware, Josh Jarboe was released from his football scholarship for bringing an unlicensed gun to high school and rapping about shooting people in a YouTube video just released on his debut album. His female sidekick, Jenna Plumley (pictured), is the starting point guard for the Oklahoma women's basketball team. On July 14, Jenna was arrested for shoplifting $34.65 worth of cosmetics from Wal-Mart in Norman.

This is 2008. Simply removing the bar codes on products isn't going to cut it like it did 20 years ago at stores like Wal-Mart. There are things in the 21st century like security cameras that can monitor every person in the store. If you need eye shadow that bad, steal some from the women's locker room. Likewise, the 21st century also brought about things like YouTube that can broadcast any home video on the internet, including ones from known gun offenders that rap about shooting people. I'm not an expert on guns or larceny, but I do know neither is what colleges look for in prospective student-athletes.
In a related story, the University of Oklahoma is taking applications for campus security positions.

Tatum Bell Prefers Gucci

Former Oklahoma State running back Tatum Bell, who was recently cut by the Detroit Lions to make room for former Cincinnati Bengal running back Rudi Johnson, just made Oklahoma State Cowboy alumns proud. While Johnson was in President Matt Millen's office finalizing his contract with the Lions, Bell took a stroll through the club house after he cleaned out his locker and stole two of Johnson's Gucci bags - apparently which were sitting outside of Millen's office. The security guards caught Bell through in-house surveillance cameras in which he looked 'suspect.' Johnson said when the bags were returned Tuesday, they were empty – missing his identification, credit cards, about $200 in cash and some undergarments.
Said Bell about what happened, "I didn’t go in the bags. I didn’t open up no bags. I don’t have his stuff."
“I asked him. I said, ‘What do I need to do to clear my name?’ I asked the organization, ‘What do I need to do to clear my name? What do I need to do to reimburse Rudi? What can I do to help?"
“But ain’t nobody saying nothing to me. They’re just stuck on the fact that I’m a thief. I’m like, ‘You all know me better than that.’ I ain’t never been in no trouble. You know what I’m saying? I ain’t never, ever, ever been in no situation like this. I’m just trying to clear my name.”
I've said it before about Josh Jarboe's girlfriend and I'll say it again. In the year 2008 do you still think security cameras are a thing of the future? I'm not quite sure how you can think that the Bengals' front office is a very good place to steal from. You've asked everyone, 'what do I need to do to reimburse Rudi?' But didn't you say just before that, 'I don't have his stuff.' I'm going to go with guilty on this one. I'm sure your phone is going to be ringing off the hook because every team in the NFL loves 3rd string running backs who steal from their teammates.
