College Smokeshow Friday: 2009 USC Song Girls' Pool Party

I kind of feel like I've been there, done that with the USC Song Girls before. Therefore, I need to get these pool party pics out of the way before we get into the heart of the 'Smokeshow of the Week' posts here. That's a 2-for-1 this week. Don't complain.

You might be curious as to who the dudes are in the photos below. Swimming team? Male cheerleaders? Current USC football players? Yeah, right. They're USC football recruits in town for a visit. Go ahead, try and recruit against that because I don't think you can.

Taylor Mays Hits (on) the USC Song Girls

When USC safety Taylor Mays decided to return to school and turn down millions as a top 10 pick, I thought he was crazy. The 2-time All-American, who is 6'3, 230lbs. with 4.4 speed, is truly a freak of nature that will arguably be the best player in the 2009 college football season.

It's when you see videos like the one below, however, that you truly realize how great college can be for a big man on campus like Mays - especially at Southern California. I'm not quite sure what WR Damian Williams is doing in the corner, but if he's there watching his girlfriend, then I'm now even a bigger fan.

USC Song Girls to Star in 'Hot Girls In Scary Places'

The entertainment industry has brought us great televisions shows in the past - The Honeymooners, M*A*S*H, Cheers, Seinfeld, The Sopranos - and some god-awful television shows in the past - The Michael Richards Show, Full House, the XFL, The Brady Bunch Hour - but never anything quite like this. Circle your calendar for Friday the 13th in March because you're not going to want to miss a television show that is going to be so bad but so worth watching.

The brilliant marketing people at E! Entertainment have decided to take scary television to a whole new level with the show, "Hot Girls In Scary Places." The premise of the show is to take three USC Song Girls and place them in an abandoned hospital that is claimed to be haunted and have them investigate creepy shadows and mysterious noises throughout the night. And if it can't get any scarier, E! will pay the three girls $10,000 if they can complete a series of challenges. Yikes!

“They’re totally scared, and totally believe experiences they’re going through,” says executive producer Gary Auerbach. “They’ll get scared and then be talking about a sorority party coming up. It’s a little bit 'Scooby Doo'-ish.”

The show on March 13th will be a special/backdoor pilot meaning that its either going to be a one and done thing or it will be picked up for several more episodes that will feature new spooky buildings located presumably somewhere in the middle of Hollywood. I figure for as much as the Song Girls have brightened even our darkest days in following college football, the least we can do is watch in hopes that it serves as some kind of way to pay them back.

I'm still unsure exactly who all three of the girls are. We know two of them well, but the blonde is a giant question mark.

2009 Rose Bowl Roundup: USC Song Girls Win Again

USC dominated Penn State in the 2009 Rose Bowl in every facet of the game. It was hard not to pull for the underdog Penn State cheerleaders to at least make the contest competitive. But as always, USC's superior talent was too much to overcome as the Song Girls danced all over the Penn State Lionettes.

It's okay to be intimidated

I wonder what the going rate for the blonde and brunette pictured above is for a weekend. I'm thinking a few Song Girls at the Husker spring game tailgate won't hurt anyone. My request form is in the mail and I'll be eagerly awaiting a prompt response. Until then, I'll be scouring all pools in and around the USC campus in anticipation of the next Song Girl pool party.
